Band Contest at Kulturkeller Gleisdorf – Our Road to the Finals
Just a little more than four months after the new lineup was complete, it was finally time: Black Chameleon was back on stage. We entered the Studio 66 Band Contest at the Kulturkeller Gleisdorf, with just 15 minutes of playtime.
In the weeks leading up to the show, each band had to sell tickets. Of course, we reached out to all our relatives and friends. The more tickets you sold, the later you got to perform – which meant more people in the audience. Thanks to our amazing fans, we got a great slot towards the end.
From each preliminary round, two jury-selected bands and one audience favorite would move forward. We ended up taking second place.
That night, the nerves were real – but it was exactly the feeling we had missed: the excitement of stepping on stage again. After the running order was announced, we waited anxiously while enjoying the other bands, each bringing their own style and energy.
When our turn came, the six of us squeezed onto the small stage. We opened with Get Heavy (premiere), then played Black Chameleon, The Dreamdancer (premiere), and Johnny (premiere). To fit within the 15 minutes, we had to trim a few songs. And then it was over – in the blink of an eye. Both the crowd and the jury seemed to love it, and we proudly secured 2nd place in the prelims.

On June 3rd, 2023, the finals took place again at Kulturkeller. After preparing meticulously and already having played a show in Kalsdorf, we were more confident and determined to go for the win. Thanks to our fans, we once again had a later slot in the lineup – but the competition was fierce. This was the final round, and every band was at their best.
Our set this time included just three songs: Call of the Void, The Voice Within, and The Dreamdancer, which was already becoming our go-to closer.
The award ceremony was nerve-racking. As band after band was called and our name didn’t come up, we knew we must have done something right. When only three bands were left, the excitement was huge. In the end, we didn’t take first place – but once again, we proudly claimed second place. And that felt incredible.
